ANTIQUE SILVER CANDLESTICKS

Silver Candlesticks are amongst the most desired of all English silver objects, the romance of candlelight and the gleam of silver go hand in hand. The use of sterling silver candlesticks is documented back to the Elizabethan era, although sadly few examples survive today. The 18th and 19th Centuries saw a surge in popularity, and ever since then they have sat proudly on our tables.

Made circa 1890, this truly spectacular pair of German, Antique 800 Standard Silver, Gothic Revival Altar Candlesticks, incorporate many design elements from gothic architecture including spires, cathedral window frames and gargoyle detailing. The wide tops have a spike to hold a large church candle. These magnificent candlesticks were originally retailed by the ecclesiastical specialist shop Jansson & Co. of Tilburg in the Netherlands. Each one measures 29"(74cm) tall, with diameter of 10"(25.5cm). The total weight of the pair is an impressive 242 troy ounces.
