SILVER FOR THE DESK

By the mid 18th Century writing desks had replaced bureaus in most fashionable houses. Inkstands, or the earlier ‘standish’ would take pride of place on the desk, with silver examples being the most desirable. Throughout the Georgian and Victorian period other accessories for the desk were created, from tapersticks and stamp boxes to rocker blotters and wax jacks.
