Hallmarked in London in 1854 by George Angell, this sublime Antique, Victorian, Sterling Silver Centrepiece features three large cast mythological figures. Its not clear who they depict. One is a man with with a hammer and anvil, perhaps Hephaestus, god of Blacksmiths. The other two are ladies, one with a quill and scroll, perhaps Clio, the muse of history, the other with her arms simply raised, a pose typical of Aprhodite, god of love and wife of Hephaestus. The centrepiece supports a central cut glass glass bowl surrounded with 6 branches for candles, decorated with acanthus leaves. The cut corner triangular base stands on large acanthus, shell and scroll feet. The centrepiece measures 28"(71cm) tall, by 15"(38cm) wide and deep, and weighs 229 troy ounces.
