L3912: Sterling Silver Set Of Six Egg Cups

Hallmarked In 1884

Hallmarked in London in 1884 by Barnards, this handsome, set of six, Victorian, Antique Sterling Silver Egg Cups, are plain in style, featuring gilt interiors and an engraved crest. Each egg cup measures 2.5"(6.5cm) tall, by 1.5"(4cm) in diameter, and the set together weighs 7 troy ounces. The set is presented in the original box. The crest is that of the Hartley family, and most likely that of Reverend John Thorneycroft Hartley, winner of the 'Gentleman's Singles Title' at Wimbledon in both 1879, and 1880, and the only English World Number 1 ranked tennis player to also be a member of the clergy.
