Hallmarked in Birmingham in 1835 by Taylor & Perry this remarkable William IV sterling silver vinaigrette is of a rectangular form with a hinged lid. The 'castle top' lid is decorated with a high-relief repoussé and chased scene of Newstead Abbey, while the sides are chased with a basket-weave pattern. The interior is gilded and has a hinged, pierced gilt grille with a floral and foliate design. The vinaigrette measures 1.75"(4.5cm) wide, by 1.25"(3cm) deep.
