Hallmarked In 1799
Hallmarked in London, 1799 by William Pitts, this exceptional Antique George III, Sterling Silver Tureen stands on four applied cast feet and has unusual double scroll handles. The lid is topped with a double scroll handle forming a heart shape. Both the lid and the bowl have an engraved griffin crest and there is a gadroon border around the bowl edge itself. This fine piece measures 14"(35cm) handle to handle with a depth of 9"(23cm). The height is 6.5"(16cm) to the top of the bowl and 11.5"(29cm) to the top of the lid handle. The weight of this tureen is 99.4 troy ounces.
