A ciborium is the name given to the covered container used in Churches to store the consecrated hosts for Holy Communion. Resembling a chalice in shape, the ciborium usually has a rounder bowl shape, and a lid surmounted with a cross or other sacred design. Like most Ecclesiastical silverware, ciboria were typically made to order, and by hand.
