A silver carving set is considered an essential item for many households. Usually comprising a meat carving knife, fork and a knife sharpener or steel, it is also possible to find sets which include a smaller carving knife and fork for game. Silver carving sets can be found with handles made of silver, ivory and antler, with silver handled sets being more in demand. The blades of the knives of older sets are made of mild steel, and can be sharpened using the steel.
