Many people are aware that silver bullion is selling at the highest it has been for almost 30 years. Today silver, by weight, is 5-6 times more valuable than it was 10 years ago and as such thousands of ounces of old silver are being taken to the smelters, sold for their scrap metal value and melted down.

This makes sense for damaged, incomplete or very modern items but for most old silver items the scrap value is less than what the item is actually worth, sometimes considerably less. So...

How do you make sure that you get the right price for the silver items that you wish to sell?

At I.Franks we guarantee to buy any hallmarked British silver for at least the scrap value of the item BUT as specialist dealers of antique silver and members of LAPADA and CINOA, we are also approved valuers able to give accurate valuations of the items you bring in and if the item is worth more than the scrap value, we'll pay you the actual value of the item.

So, if you've got something to sell, what should you do? We recommend a two stage process. Email us at this address sales@ifranks.com with digital photos of the items you wish to sell including, if possible, a photograph of the hallmarks. From these pictures, we can usually confirm whether the items are silver or silver plate. We can also give you a ball park figure of their value. From this information, you can decide whether its worth making a visit to our shop to sell what you have.
