e3066: George III Sterling Silver Epergne

Hallmarked in London in 1763 by Thomas Pitts, this Antique, Sterling Silver, early George III Epergne is the rarer, larger, 9 basket variety and makes for an extremely impressive display. The epergne features cast and applied decoration to the borders and feet, with piercing to the body. It comes with an additional piece that fits underneath the central bowl. This later extension tube carries a hallmark for Charles Fox II circa 1825 and was presumably commisioned by the then owner to increase the height of the epergne. The epergne measures 36cm (14.25 inches) in height, 66cm (26 inches) in width and 62cm (24.5 inches) in depth. It weighs 155 oz troy.
